Triphenylpyrylium tetrafluoroborate-sensitized electron transfer photo-oxygenation was found to be an effective method for the transformation of arylethenes to 1,2-dioxanes. In vitro evaluation of the 1,2-dioxanes showed high antimalarial activity.
