Non-invasive rheological evaluation of obliterative arterial lesions (ASO) has been recently performed by Duplex scanning or near-infrared spectroscopy. These examinations are useful to assess the severity of intermittent claudication, and to evaluate aerobic metabolic rate in ASO patients. Recently balloon angioplasty, laser angioplasty, and stent have been performed with an allowable results, however, restenosis following endovascular therapy and the graft failure following bypass surgery occurred frequently during long term follow-up. Therefore, more effort should be paid to clear the mechanism and to develop prevention against restenosis after endovascular surgery as well as against graft failure after bypass surgery.
