The 'doyo' is the song which was intentionally created for children in 1918 (the seventh of Taisho), and was not accompanied by melody at the first stage. From the latter of the Taisho period to the early years of the Showa period, there appeared many writers of the 'doyo', and many primary school teachers introduced them into school lessons, though not officially. The views on the 'doyo' gradually got diversified, finally to dispute among the 'doyo' writers and teachers. Here, Noguchi Ujo and Yokose Yau, poets alike, are given for example. The 'doyo' teachers came to break up into factions according to which of those two poets to support. It is, today, generally recognized, that the then disputation was unproductive because their theories could not cross each other for discussion. From the viewpoint of the day, however, their points at issue could be consist with each other, though different and not fused into one, and be united at a higher level. Both points are necessary for the present education for children. I suggest here that the points of Ujo's and Yau's groups have a common goal, judging from the viewpoint of 'human education'. When they deal with the 'doyo', the former lays stress on discipline and the latter on cultivation in order to reach the educational goal. The two could be more effective if combined, in the modern education for children.
