We investigated physical development and tissue growth after surgical repair of congenital heart defects. After repair of coarctation of the aorta, normal growth of the aorta occurred in most patients, regardless of the method of surgical repair. However, we must carefully follow the patients because re-coarctation was not uncommon in neonates and infants. Total circulatory annuloplasty with absorbable suture was useful for repair of mitral regurgitation of atrioventricular defects. Mitral annulus grew 3 months after operation. Ventricular septal defect (VSD) with pulmonary hypertension retarded physical development because of congestive heart failure. Closure of VSD promoted their progressive physical development.
